Ford Ranger Max Show Truck Debuts at Motor Expo

The high-impact Ranger MAX Show Truck made its world premiere in Bangkok as the 25th Thailand International Motor Expo started today. Joining the global show truck is a full range of all Ford nameplates including the newly-launched Ford Focus TDCi with 6-speed PowerShift dual clutch and the new Ford Escape, both with an accent of kinetic design, as well as the Ford Everest and Ranger.

“There is no better place than Bangkok to host the world debut of the bold Ranger MAX Show Truck. The Show truck was created by Ford Thailand team, working with Ford’s Australia-based Asia Pacific and Africa design team,” said Saroj Kiatfuengfoo, senior vice president of Ford Thailand.

Ranger MAX pushes everyone's expectations of Ranger to the max. Visually bold and muscular, Ranger MAX takes to the stage at the Ford stand with confidence, sophistication and craftsmanship. It is genuinely tough and it is a truck that gets the job done. Its design concept took inspiration from the functional design found in some modern power tools that are not only functional but also durable, which are the qualities that Ford trucks are recognized for.

Ranger MAX’s profile exudes power and dominance as well as balanced proportion. The flexed 'power dome' shape of its hood communicates the pulling power and high torque of the engine. Its distinctive, deep-dish, 18-inch alloy concept wheels and custom technical-look tyres finish its extreme looks. Adding even more dynamism to the profile is the exclusive Ranger MAX sportsbar, which attaches to the pickup bed and arches across the vehicle. This unique crossbar is shaped to create the visual impression that Ranger MAX is always on the move – or ready for action.

Along side the Ranger MAX is the newly launched Ford Focus TDCi. With more contemporary and sporty look enhanced by “kinetic design” elements, the powerful diesel-engine compact passenger car comes with the first-in-segment six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission and Electronic Stability Program (ESP). Capable of running on B5 biodiesel fuel, the New Ford Focus TDCi continues to live up to the green heritage of the Ford Focus range.

Available in four-door sedan Ghia and five-door hatch Sport, the new Ford Focus TDCi is powered by Ford’s renowned Duratorq TDCi 2.0L with PowerShift automatic transmission that provides great responsiveness and continuous torque. The 2.0-litre DuraTorq turbodiesel engine produces 100kW and Maximum torque of 320Nm at low rev of only 1,800 rpm (can be boosted up to 340Nm for a short period if necessary). It also offers an impressive fuel economy (combined urban and extra urban) of just 5.8L/100km. Both Ghia and Sport models are able to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 9.6 seconds. Being B5-capable, the New Focus TDCi is also environmentally friendly.

Another highlight at the Ford stand is the newly launched Ford Escape. Truly living up to its name “Escape”, the real SUV allows drivers and passengers to ‘escape’ from routine life and into more exciting adventures that they desire. All these is possible through the unmatched performance of the vehicle’s renowned uratec 2.3Lt engine, as well as its superior acceleration, smooth drivability with impressive fuel efficiency.

Its reliable Duratec 2.3L powertrain with a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) engine produces a robust 146 Hp of peak power at 6000rpm and 196Nm/4,000 rpm. Modern and Refined Interiors While Ford Ranger exterior speaks of "Tough Truck", the interior offers a welcome delight with a space that provides a comfortable and luxurious experience to the driver and passengers through its sedan-like modern and refined interiors, and superb suspension.

Ford Ranger features a refreshing interior color of camel, in addition to the more conventional grey interior. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) can learn and adjust to a variety of environments and driving patterns. It works in concert with close gear ratio 5-speed automatic transmission, to keep the revs in the power band at all times. It also ensures greater fuel efficiency and acceleration than with the conventional 4-speed automatic transmission. According to the graph, the engine revolution of 2,000 - 3,000 rpm is in the power band and also most common in routine driving. It is clear that acceleration of the 5th gear is continuous all the way from the 1st gear. Closer gear ratio also means greater fuel efficiency as there is no need to rev the engine back up to the desired rpm. This is unlike in 4-speed automatic transmissions where wider gear ratio lets the revolution fall too significantly while changing gears. Ranger Engines

2007 Ranger is equipped with Duratorq engine. Duratorq is the marketing name of a range of Ford Diesel engines first introduced in 2000 for the Ford Mondeo range of cars.

The Ford Ranger is offered with a choice of two four-cylinder 2.5-litre diesel engines, both new to the Ford line-up. The 57kW (78 PS) DuraTorq WL is a pre-chamber unit, with three valves per cylinder. It develops 168 Nm of peak torque at 2,500 rpm with characteristics that have been optimised for lugging power and a good ‘performance feel’. It delivers outstanding fuel economy for an engine of this size.

The turbocharged and intercooled version of the same engine, the DuraTorq WLT, develops 40 per cent more power and 60 per cent more torque. Maximum power is 80kW (109 PS) at 3,500 rpm with a peak torque of 266 Nm at only 2,000 rpm. It has the additional refinement of twin balancer shafts to improve running refinement.

A limited slip differential is standard on the rear axle of all Ford Rangers. It improves traction on irregular and slippery surfaces, especially when lightly laden. All models also have a five-speed manual transmission.

For the practical off-road ability, Ranger is also available with dual-range selectable four-wheel drive. The front wheel hubs have the convenience of remotely operated electric locking, which is automatically engaged when wheelslip in four-wheel drive is sensed. The hubs then remain locked until disengaged via a switch on the facia. When the hubs are freewheeling, drag of the front drive shafts and transmission is eliminated, to increase fuel economy and reduce steering effort.

Ford introduced a new 2.5 L version of the Duratorq for the Thailand-built 2007 Ford Ranger. It is a 16-valve DOHC engine with Bosch common-rail direct injection and a variable-geometry turbocharger. It produces 143 PS (141 hp/105 kW) and 330 N·m (243 ft·lbf).[1]

A 3.0 L Duratorq similar to the 2.5 is also used in the 2007 Ranger. It produces 156 PS (154 hp/115 kW) and 380 N·m (280 ft·lbf).
